Christmas Gifts for Guitar Players (2026): 10 Picks They Will Actually Use

Christmas Gifts for Guitar Players (2026): 10 Picks They Will Actually Use
Editorial note: Everything on this list is made by Musiciangoods. We publish theory books, cheat sheets and practice tools for self-taught players, and we do not sell guitars, strings or pedals. So this is a list of what we make, ranked by how likely it is to still be in use in February. For a guide that also covers third-party gear, see our gifts for guitar players guide.

Shopping for Christmas gifts for guitar players from outside the hobby usually ends the same way: a pack of picks, a novelty T-shirt, or a capo they already own two of. The instrument is easy to spot and hard to buy for, so people default to the cheapest thing in the shop with a guitar on it.

The gap is rarely accessories. Most guitarists have a drawer of picks and a tuner on the headstock. What they usually lack is the part that YouTube skipped: what the notes on the neck are called, why the chords they know fit together, and what to practise when they sit down. That is the gap a Christmas present can fill, and it is a gap that does not need you to know whether they play acoustic or electric.

These ten picks cover it from under €5 to a €99 bundle. Each one says who it suits, roughly what it costs, and whether it can still arrive if you have left it until the last week. Prices are in euros and were checked on 17 September 2026.

1. Guitar fretboard stickers — the best Christmas gift under €10

Guitar fretboard stickers applied to a guitar neck, showing note names at each fret

Most people who got a guitar last Christmas can play a few chord shapes and still could not tell you what note their finger is on. The fret markers only say where you are, not what you are playing, so new players count up from the open string for months and then give up and learn everything by shape.

Fretboard stickers put the note names where the fingers already are. They get read a few hundred times a week without any practice time being set aside, and because they are removable they come off cleanly once the neck is memorised.

At around €10 they are the natural stocking filler next to something bigger, and they suit acoustic and electric guitars alike. Skip them for someone who has played for years; they already know the neck.

Best for: anyone in their first year, and self-taught players who navigate by shape. View the guitar fretboard stickers.

2. Guitar chords chart PDF — the €5 gift that arrives in minutes

Every guitarist looks up chords. The problem is where: a phone with a chord app on the music stand, three tabs open, and an advert between them and the F chord. A single printed chart next to the guitar removes the phone from the practice session entirely.

Our chords chart PDF is the same layout as the mousepad below, delivered by email as a print-ready file. Print it at home, stick it to the wall or the inside of the case lid, and it does its job.

At €5 it is the cheapest thing we make, and it is also the answer if it is 23 December and nothing physical will arrive in time. Forward the download email, or print it and put it in the card.

Best for: last-minute shoppers, and players who learn songs from chord sheets. View the guitar chords chart PDF.

3. Guitar chords chart mousepad — for the player who practises at a desk

A lot of guitar practice now happens at a desk, in front of a laptop with a lesson or a backing track running. That is also where a reference chart is most useful and least likely to exist, because nobody hangs a poster above a monitor.

The chords chart mousepad puts the common open and barre chord shapes under the mouse, so the chord they cannot remember is a glance away instead of a search. It is a normal cloth-top mousepad with a rubber base, so it replaces the one they already have rather than adding clutter.

Around €20, in black or white. If the person you are buying for already knows their chords and wants scales and theory instead, the cheat sheet mousepad in pick five is the better choice.

Best for: beginners and casual players who learn songs at a computer. View the guitar chords chart mousepad.

4. Guitar theory cheat sheet PDF — for the player who learns on a tablet

Some players keep everything on a tablet: tabs, lessons, the metronome. For them a poster is one more thing to store, but a PDF they can open on the same screen gets used.

The guitar theory cheat sheet condenses the fretboard note map, the major and minor scale patterns, the pentatonic shapes, intervals and chord construction onto a single reference. It is the same content as the mousepad and poster below, in a file.

Around €10, delivered by email within minutes of ordering, which makes it the second option for anyone shopping in the last week before Christmas.

Best for: tablet and phone learners, and last-minute gifts with more depth than a chord chart. View the guitar theory cheat sheet PDF.

5. Guitar theory cheat sheet mousepad — the pick we would choose first

Guitar theory cheat sheet mousepad showing fretboard notes, scales, intervals and chord formulas

If you buy one thing from this list for a self-taught guitarist, buy this. Theory is the part most players skipped, and the reason they skipped it is that the information lived in a book on a shelf, two rooms away from the guitar.

The cheat sheet mousepad moves it to the desk. Fretboard notes, scale shapes, the intervals that build chords, and the formulas for major, minor and seventh chords are all printed on the surface, so the question that used to end a practice session now takes a glance to answer.

The regular size is around €25. There is also a desk-sized XXL version, with or without LED edge lighting, for players who want the whole desk covered; it costs more and is worth it only if they have the space.

Best for: self-taught players who know shapes but not the names, and anyone who practises in front of a screen. View the guitar theory cheat sheet mousepad.

6. Guitar theory cheat sheet poster — for the wall behind the amp

Not everyone practises at a desk. If the guitar lives in a corner of the living room or a spare bedroom, the reference needs to be on the wall where the playing happens.

The poster carries the same reference as the mousepad at a size that can be read from a chair across the room. It also looks like a deliberate piece of wall art rather than a study aid, which matters if the practice room is shared with a partner.

Around €25. It ships rolled, so allow for the post; if you are inside the last week before Christmas, the PDF in pick four is the same content with no delivery.

Best for: players with a practice corner, and gifts for acoustic guitar players who never sit at a computer. View the guitar theory cheat sheet poster.

7. Guitar Theory Simplified — for the player who knows shapes but not why

Guitar Theory Simplified by Melvin Tellier, cover and interior pages with fretboard diagrams
Guitar Theory Simplified, published by Musiciangoods.

Most guitarists learn from tabs and videos, which works until it does not. They can play the riff but cannot move it to another key, cannot write a second guitar part, and cannot say why a G, a C and a D sound like they belong together.

Guitar Theory Simplified is written for exactly that player. It starts from the fretboard rather than from sheet music, and works through notes, intervals, scales, how chords are built and how progressions work, in plain language with diagrams on every page. Nothing in it assumes they can read notation.

The PDF edition starts around €22 and arrives instantly; the full-colour paperback costs more and is the one to wrap. It is the gift on this list that keeps working longest, because understanding why a progression works changes every song they learn afterwards.

Best for: intermediate players stuck on shapes, and adults who started late and want to understand what they are doing. View Guitar Theory Simplified.

8. Cheat sheet + Guitar Theory Simplified bundle — one box, done

Guitar Theory Simplified book together with the guitar theory cheat sheet mousepad

The book explains; the mousepad reminds. Most people who read a theory book once forget the chord formulas within a month, and most people with only a cheat sheet know the pattern without knowing why it works. Together they cover the gap from both sides.

The bundle pairs the paperback with the cheat sheet mousepad in one parcel, which also solves the practical Christmas problem of a book looking thin under the tree on its own.

Around €56, which is less than buying both separately. Choose the regular mousepad unless you know they have a large desk.

Best for: the main present for a serious self-taught player. View the cheat sheet and book bundle.

9. Guitar & Bass Theory Books bundle — for a house with two players

Guitar Theory Simplified and Bass Theory Simplified books side by side

Guitarists tend to live with, or play with, bassists. If you are buying for two people in the same band or the same house, two versions of the same book make one present that lands for both.

The bundle contains Guitar Theory Simplified and Bass Theory Simplified, each written from its own instrument's fretboard so the two players can compare notes on the same chapter. Both are available in English, and the paperback edition also comes in Spanish.

The PDF pair starts around €33; the paperbacks cost more and ship as a single parcel. If the guitarist also has a ukulele or piano in the house, the same bundle exists in those combinations.

Best for: couples, siblings and bandmates. View the Guitar & Bass Theory Books bundle.

10. Guitar Mastery Bundle — the main present

Guitar Mastery Bundle: Guitar Theory Simplified book, cheat sheet mousepad, poster and fretboard stickers
Guitar Mastery Bundle, made by Musiciangoods.

Some people want to give the whole thing at once. The Guitar Mastery Bundle is everything we make for guitar in one box: the book for the explanation, the cheat sheet for the desk, the poster for the wall and the stickers for the neck.

It is built for a player who can already strum a few songs and has said, at some point, that they wish they understood what they were doing. Each part covers a different moment: reading on the sofa, practising at the desk, glancing at the wall mid-song.

Around €99 with the regular mousepad, more for the XXL and LED versions. It is the most expensive thing on this list and the only one that does not need anything added to it.

Best for: a single, complete Christmas present for a committed player. View the Guitar Mastery Bundle.

How to choose a Christmas gift for a guitar player

Start with one question you can answer without asking them: how long have they been playing. Under a year, the stickers and the chords chart do the most good, because the neck and the basic chords are still the daily problem. After a year or two, the cheat sheet and the book are the right level, because the shapes are there and the understanding is not. Acoustic or electric does not change the answer; the notes are in the same places.

Then match the budget. Under €10 the stickers and the two PDFs are safe for anyone. Between €20 and €25 the mousepads and the poster each fix one specific thing about where they practise. From €56 the bundles turn one of these into a complete present, and at €99 the Guitar Mastery Bundle is the whole set.

Avoid buying a guitar, strings or pedals unless you have been told the exact model. Neck width, string gauge and amp type are all personal, and the wrong one gets exchanged in January. If they have not started yet, our guides to how to start learning guitar and learning guitar as an adult are a better thing to send than a surprise instrument. For a beginner, our gifts for beginner guitar players guide goes into more detail, and everything above can be browsed in our guitar products collection or the seasonal Christmas gifts for musicians collection.

Christmas shipping and last-minute options

Physical items ship from the Netherlands, so order the mousepads, posters, books and bundles early in December to be safe. The PDF editions of the chords chart, the theory cheat sheet and Guitar Theory Simplified are delivered by email within minutes of ordering, at any hour, which makes them the fallback if you are reading this on Christmas Eve. Forward the download email, or print the first page and put it in the card.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Christmas gift for a guitar player? Something that fixes a daily annoyance rather than another accessory. For most players that is a reference they can see while they practise, such as a theory cheat sheet mousepad or poster, or a book that explains why the chords they already know work together.

What are the best Christmas gifts for guitar players under €25? Fretboard stickers at around €10, the chords chart or theory cheat sheet PDF at €5 to €10, and either the chords chart mousepad or the theory cheat sheet mousepad at €20 to €25. All four get used from the first week.

What do you buy a guitarist who has everything? Knowledge instead of gear. A player with three guitars and a pedalboard usually still has a gap in theory, so a clear book on guitar theory gives them something they do not already own.

Is a music theory book a good gift for a guitarist? Yes, if it is written for guitar. General theory books start from the piano and sheet music, which is why most guitarists give up on them. A guitar-specific book starts from the fretboard they already know.

What should I get a beginner guitar player for Christmas? Fretboard stickers first, a chords chart second, and a stand so the guitar stays out of its case. The stickers shorten the months spent learning the neck, and the chart replaces the phone on the music stand.

Can I still get a gift if I have left it too late? Yes. Every PDF on this list arrives by email within minutes, so a chords chart, a theory cheat sheet or the digital edition of Guitar Theory Simplified can be bought on Christmas morning and printed or forwarded.
